About Me
Having graduated on June 20, 2014, I am a recent graduate from the University of Maryland Dietetic Internship Program. I had a blast during my internship! Our rotations were unique and our concentration on information technology allowed me to see nutrition woven into so many different environments. I've met fabulous people and have had the fortune to connect with some great dietitians who've taught me so much. My rotations provided fantastic and fun experiences, took me into areas of Baltimore I'd never before traveled, and provided opportunities to venture in and around DC.
Backing up, here's a little more about me... I grew up in Katy, Texas and graduated from Texas Tech University with a BBA in Management Information Systems. I lived in Dallas for a few years before moving to Baltimore. I enjoyed a 10-year career in Information Systems working for large and small companies, supporting both internal and external customers.
My father was diagnosed with cancer while living in Spain, where he also received treatment. He and my stepmother included me in all aspects of his treatments, and I am so grateful. My stepmother introduced me to the power of nutrition by having me read books about nutrition and cancer; I learned how nutrition can influence cancer prevention and treatment and the important role phytochemicals and antioxidants play in optimal health.
I became interested in a second career because I wanted to make a bigger and more meaningful impact in the lives of others. Nutrition was the obvious avenue for me and I am so excited about my future!
In 2013, I graduated from the University of Maryland College Park with a BS in Dietetics. My dietetic volunteer experiences include opportunities at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, the Capital Area Food Bank, and Moveable Feast. During my senior year, I worked at the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Information Center. I attended MAND’s Legislative Day and the Academy’s Public Policy Workshop (PPW) during my senior year as well. In attending the MAND and Academy events, I gained a clear understanding of the need to advocate for nutrition policy, Registered Dietitians, and the field of dietetics at both the state and federal levels.
I re-energize by lifting weights and I like to run and attend running events. I enjoy hiking and camping, as well. When I can find a nice, wide shoulder, I love to spend time on my road bike! During warm weather, you'll find me on the water, stand up paddle boarding.
