Information Technology Rotations
Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP)
I looked forward to my rotation at CNPP for quite some time! During my employment at the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Information Center, I met and worked with staff from CNPP’s Nutrition Marketing and Communication group. I was also familiar with CNPP’s role in the support and development of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. I knew the small group comprising CNPP produced some amazing and valuable material and I was excited to be a part of it all!
Given the confidential nature of their business, I can’t share details regarding the efforts to which I contributed at CNPP, but I can tell you it was a great rotation. I had a blast and learned so much while working with such a dedicated, talented, and fun group! I was an active and integral component of the Marketing and Communication group’s momentum, which was rewarding and addictive! I contributed to ChoseMyPlate consumer messaging as well as other visible ChoseMyPlate efforts. Additional projects allowed me to provide tools that were immediately incorporated into the operations of the Marketing and Communication group. |
International Food Information Council (IFIC)My 3-week rotation at IFIC flew by! I feel fortunate for the timing of my rotation as I was able to attend some unique IFIC end-of-year events as well as sessions at the American Society of Nutrition 2013 conference. I also contributed two Food Insight blog entries (which provided opportunity to gain IFIC’s “consumer” voice), and assisted in numerous projects, one of which was a Twitter chat.
I can’t comment on all activities in which I assisted. However, I can say that I refined and strengthened many skills through the work required to complete our projects. I received valuable feedback and feel that my work contributed to IFIC’s corporate mission, without a doubt! Additionally, I attended events in which IFIC’s senior and executive staff were in attendance. I am so grateful to have attended these events because I was able to learn about the history of the organization and learn more about each staff member, beyond their individual bios. I learned so much and have a great appreciation for the skills that each person contributes to IFIC’s mission and momentum! |
