- Responded to “Contact Us” submissions received from the FNIC and Nutrition.gov websites. Researched nutrition topics submitted by government patrons, health professionals, and consumers. Provided patrons with nutrition resources available on the FNIC and Nutrition.gov websites, as well as other websites that provide reliable, credible nutrition information.
- Systematically researched current publications to compile a monthly literature search for our sponsor, the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) Office of Research and Analysis. I researched the following areas of interest: evaluation of nutrition education in FNS programs, formative research regarding FNS target populations, use of FNS programs and program benefits, food shopping and purchasing behaviors of FNS participants, school meal and child care center food or nutrition policies or initiatives, and food polices related to FNS programs and participants. I also researched and reported new national obesity prevention initiatives, as well as emerging efforts and updates on current efforts.
- Researched and compiled ad-hoc literature searches requested by other USDA entities.
- Evaluate websites for inclusion into the FNIC or Nutrition.gov websites.
- Updated and maintained content on the FNIC and Nutrition.gov websites.
- Assisted coworkers with presentations, and conference preparation and attendance.
- Created a blog post for USDA Blog promoting Nutrition.gov's video "Kids Rock Nutrition in the Kitchen": Let Kids Play with Their Food?
- Created a blog post for USDA Blog promoting Food and Nutrition Services' Core Nutrition Messages: The Track & Field Fuel-Up Challenge! Summer Fun that Helps Kids Learn
- Corresponded with patrons and managed the distribution of Nutrition.gov's "Kids Rock Nutrition in the Kitchen" and "Farmers' Markets: Fresh, Local, Healthy" DVDs.
- Systematically researched the history of the Nutrition Facts Panel "Serving Size" to evaluate trends in the different types of education materials produced pertaining to "Serving Size". My research was preformed at the request of a FDA nutritionist, who is involved in a collaborative effort highlighting nutrition literacy pertaining to "Serving Size".
- Guest speaker for the NFSC 470 Community Nutrition class at University of Maryland. Provided an overview of the resources available to consumers and professionals on the FNIC and Nutrition.gov websites.
